Kol Nidrei - From Synagogue to Concert Hall - to Ramaz US and MS Students!
Thursday, October 10, 2019
In anticipation of Yom Kippur, Middle School students and the Upper School senior class participated in a special musical presentation exploring Kol Nidrei. Students explored Sephardic and Ashkenazi versions and discovered Kol Nidrei's cultural significance, inspiring popular and classical music versions, and film. Cellist Mariel Roberts and Pianist Philip Fisher performed excerpts from the concert piece for cello solo. KJ's Cantor Chaim Berson talked about his interpretation and preparation for the holiday. The performers also compared and exchanged musical interpretations in a fascinating exploration of how music travels from Synagogue to Concert Hall.
