This Physics Class Is Learning About How To Bend Light!

Ramaz News

Rabbi Blaustein's eleventh grade physics classes have been studying light and optics. The last part of this unit was about refraction (the bending of light as it changes speed going from one medium into another). Students used lasers to verify the direction of the bending, measure the angles of refraction, and investigate the phenomenon of "internal reflection." Afterwards, the students were honored to be visited by Dr. Batya Pianko, an optometrist. Dr. Pianko spoke about how refraction allows the lens in an eye to produce images from the light that hits it, as well as "refractive errors" that affect vision and how they can be corrected with lenses (glasses and contacts). Dr. Pianko also spoke about her journey to becoming an optometrist and how excited she is to apply her passion for physics and optics in her career!
