Students Visit the Metropolitan Opera for an Evening of Tosca

Ramaz News

In the latest installment of the Upper School’s “Hasifriya matziga” or “The Library Presents” series of cultural outings, students and staff headed to the Metropolitan Opera to see Puccini’s iconic Tosca. It was an incredible trip in which students fully took advantage of New York City as their classroom. Set in Rome in 1800 amidst bitter struggles over the fate of the Eternal City in the context of the Napoleonic Wars, Tosca explores the tragic interplay of love and politics as experienced by the eponymous Floria Tosca, a singer, and Mario Cavaradossi, an artist and Napoleon-sympathizer. The students learned a great deal, not only about arts and culture, but also about this fascinating moment in history. Puccini’s bold and colorful music, the Met’s beautiful sets, and performances of the highest quality all made for an exciting and impactful evening.
