Students Study Matisse at the Acquavella Galleries

Ramaz News

Sophomore art students went to the local Acquavella Galleries to see a Henri Matisse exhibition! The students are about to paint self-portraits and this was a great opportunity to think about the possibility of color and form. They discussed the choices that made Matisse's work feel easy and elegant. For example, his color choices were very vibrant and he moved away from earth colors. Ms. Laura Greengold highlighted how, though Matisse's marks look effortless and free, but the artist would wipe off his work and start fresh every time he want to fix something, to hide the work he put into it.
