Ramaz "Women in STEM" Spend 3 Days in Boston Touring Top Science Institutions and Meeting Experts
Ramaz News

Three Ramaz students took a three-day trip to Boston on a Women in STEM trip run by CIJE (Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education). The students—Elianna G. '27, Sami F. '26, and Sara K. '27—started the trip at the new MIT Museum, where they explored all the innovations and projects that MIT has initiated and pioneered, including experiments about AI, robotics, biology, and even climate change.
The next day, they went to the Broad Institute, a biomedical and genomic research center that is a partnership between MIT and Harvard. They met with Dr. Noam Shoresh, the director of the epigenomics program, and other researchers who gave them a tour and taught the students about their labs. Next, they went to FormLabs, a leading 3D printing company, where they attended a panel with engineers at the company who are developing new products, speaking about their experience working at a top engineering firm. The last stop of the day was the Robotics and AI Institute, a sister company of Boston Dynamics. The students toured their labs and saw the robots they were working on, including Spot, their robotic dog, and their other humanoid robots. They then attended a Q&A panel with many of RAI's engineers, who discussed their work in the engineering field and gave advice for aspiring engineers, such as these Ramaz students.
On the last day of the trip, they went to the MIT Sea Grant, a research lab dedicated to the development of marine resources through research, education, and outreach. They interacted with and drive underwater robots, learned about the robot tuna and other AUVs (autonomous underwater vehicles) they build, and participated in hands-on labs exploring the changing acidity in the sea. It was fascinating to see how engineering and marine biology come together in such innovative ways. The students also stopped at the Harvard Chabad and Yale Slifka Center along the way, where they learned about and experienced Jewish student life on these prestigious campuses.
