Maury Litwack Talks with Seniors about the Impact of Voting
Ramaz News

Seniors were honored to receive a visit from Mr. Maury Litwack, who founded Teach Coalition and is the founder and CEO of Jewish Voters Unite. He used his time with students to discuss a pressing matter: the importance of voting and of urging their friends and families to vote. Mr. Litwack opened by telling students about a time in his childhood when he was attacked on the street, for being Jewish. He felt intensely helpless, and the memory of that helpless feeling has stuck with him. He experienced that same sensation after October 7, 2023. He highlighted how students can ensure that they do not succumb to helplessness. He shared a vital "secret" about life, saying, "There are two types of people who can change the political process, who can make an impact on the world and Israel and the Jewish people: those who vote and those who don't vote."
He emphasized how crucially it matters that they vote. He provided examples of recent antisemitic politicians who won their seats by narrow margins. Mr. Litwack also described a conversation he'd had with a politician who said that, when people call or write to him about issues, he first examines the calls and letters from people who voted for him, followed by those who voted for someone else; the calls and letters from nonvoters are completely ignored. Mr. Litwack told students, “I’m here today to make a plea to the graduating class. Plea #1: Make a plan to vote. Plea #2: Ask your friends and family if they’re planning on voting, and if not, convince them. Plea #3: Commit that you’re going to keep voting for the rest of your life.”
After the talk, he handed voter registration forms and early mail applications to everyone who needed them. Ramaz students can't wait to make their voices heard.
