Kol HaKavod to Juniors and Seniors at the Annual Shakespeare Competition

Ramaz News

Students experienced a special morning of live Shakespeare when Grades 11 and 12 participated in the Annual Shakespeare Competition. Juniors and seniors who wished to take part had chosen a monologue from any Shakespeare play, had memorized it, and, at the competition, they performed it for their peers and a panel of Ramaz faculty judges. The lighthearted competition inspired an appreciation for Shakespeare and provided the opportunity for students to hone their public speaking, reading comprehension, and acting skills: in addition to learning their lines, they needed to understand their words and perform with emotion and enunciation. The winner of the competition will receive The New Oxford Shakespeare: The Complete Works with a special bookplate inside, and will advance to the semi-finals of the National Shakespeare Competition. The semi-finals will be held in New York City—because, as Ramaz English teacher Dr. Edith Honig reminded students, New York City is one of the cultural centers of the world.

Kol hakavod to all the performers, including first-place winner Judah S. ’26 and second-place winner Sylvie R. ’26.
