Middle Schoolers Learn about the Impact of Youth Activism on the Civil Rights Movement for MLK Day

Ramaz News

To honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Middle Schoolers participated in a lesson exploring the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement. In the lesson, facilitated by the organization WinAtSocial (which equips schools to teach about technology and current events), students learned about well-known leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X, and they also discovered the powerful role young people played in creating civil rights change.

The lesson paid particular attention to Claudette Colvin, a courageous teenager whose actions helped advance the fight for civil rights. Through her story, students reflected on importance of standing up for one’s beliefs and the impact of youth activism. The students were encouraged to consider how they, too, can advocate for causes they care about and make a positive difference for themselves and others.
