Middle School Students Visit Local Fire Department to Give Thanks

Ramaz News

Ahead of September 11, students from the Middle School baked treats and wrote notes for Ramaz's local fire department, FDNY Engine 22/Ladder 13/ Battalion 10, to thank them for their service. Students from 6th and 8th grade visited the fire department on September 10 to deliver the home-baked goods and handwritten notes and to learn about how Engine 22 and Ladder 13 answered the call to save lives on September 11, 2001. The students were moved by the fire department's memorial to "The Yorkville 9," the nine first responders from the team that died on the job at the World Trade Center. The blackboards from September 11, 2001 are still preserved with the date and their names on it.

The firemen on duty answered questions and showed the students around the firehouse. The students especially enjoyed watching a demonstration of how firemen slide down a pole to get from one floor of the building to another and learning about the training equipment the firemen use to practice knocking down doors. They also made friends with the firehouse cat, Carlow.
