Middle School Reflects on 9/11

This past Friday, September 9, the Middle school stopped to reflect and learn from the atrocities that occurred on September 11, 2001. Students shared a true story from the book 14 Cows for America, about a man named Kimeli Naiyomah. Kimeli is from the Maasai tribe in Kenya and was studying in New York City when the attack took place. When he travelled home, his tribe had not heard about the events that took place on 9/11. When the Maasai people learned of what had happened, they decided to dedicate a sacred symbol to the American people; 14 cows as a way to help heal their hearts. An important message from the book was, "... There is no nation so powerful it cannot be wounded, nor a people so small they cannot offer mighty comfort." Following, there was singing to which the Head of Institutional Advancement, Mr. Kenneth Rochlin '86, commented, "It was very powerful and very meaningful."
