In honor of Memorial Day, students in grades 5, 6, and 7 learned about how members of the New York Syrian Jewish community fought in the military during World War II. Video footage from the Sephardic Heritage Museum contained interviews and photo and video footage of veterans, who discussed why they felt the need to enlist, how proud they were to serve as Americans, and how their Jewish faith impacted their experiences. They retired from the military as proud Americans, grateful for their families and country.
