Third Grade Visits Lincoln Center

Ramaz News

With gracious support from the Sanders Foundation, third grade students had the opportunity to attend the New York Philharmonic Orchestra's Young People's Concert at Lincoln Center. The program was entitled Our Community, Our Earth and encouraged audience members to use music as a vehicle to consider our relationships with each other and our planet. Students heard music from the Baroque, Impressionism, and Contemporary periods, all in the newly renovated David Geffen Hall. The children made connections between their study of instrument families and instruments as the NY Philharmonic brilliantly used cameras to highlight the instruments and make the listening experience accessible to our young learners. Excitingly, the program also featured the world premiere of new music by Angelica Negron. This futuristic music coordinates the orchestra’s performance with electrodes on a computer-controlled plant. The third graders are grateful to have had the opportunity to hear the renowned NY Philharmonic Orchestra and to continue strengthening their listening skills and musical study.
