Students Learn Life Lessons and Practice Basketball with Jewish Athlete Tamir Goodman
Ramaz News

Lower Schoolers received an exciting visit from basketball superstar Tamir Goodman! He inspired everyone with how he pursued his dreams while maintaining his Jewish observance. Tamir was the first person who ever wore a kippah in D1 basketball, and he often had to make sacrifices in order to stay true to his Judaism, including turning down opportunities that conflicted with Shabbat. Tamir went on to write the children's book Live Your Dreams about how he overcame obstacles to achieve his basketball success. He taught students valuable lessons that apply to both sports and everyday life, including the importance of humility and of the impact of repetitive practice to build muscle memory. After, all, he explained, "That's why we daven every day." He got everyone involved by having them all stand up and coaching them in their free-throw technique!
Thank you to Alexandra and Rani Dishi '05 for sponsoring his visit.
