Fourth graders have entered a very exciting final stretch of the school year! By now, you know that students have participated in the Chidon and a full day of Lag B'omer races and activities! We're so proud of all fourth graders for their hard work in the Chidon and especially excited for those who competed in the finals!

During Lag B'omer, fourth graders played a fun game of Gaga in a blow-up Gaga pit! They spent some time practicing their sign language to sign Hatikva. Asphalt Green provided a fun setting for lots of sports and relay races.

Our fourth grade mathematicians have delved into their study of decimals. Students have learned how to express mixed numbers and fractions as decimals. They have compared decimals and expressed decimals as money values. We're also reviewing many previously taught mathematical concepts in preparation for the upcoming Milestone exams on June 1st and June 2nd.

Our fourth grade readers have grown and greatly expanded their literacy skills. They are now able to independently conduct small book clubs. As part of our historical fiction unit, students are discussing the historically accurate plot events of their books and their impact on the fictional characters' development. Using Number the Stars as a mentor text; students are exploring concepts requiring higher level thinking. These discussion topics have included: "Who has power?" "How are the historical events impacting the main character's growth?" "What is the character learning about herself and the world?" "How do secondary characters interact with and affect the main characters?" We are so happy to see our students conducting meaningful conversations around literature!

We are so excited for the wonderful learning we have planned for the next remainder of the year and looking forward to the Zimriyah and Moving Up days!
