Second Graders Explore Their Community Using Maps

Ramaz News

The Grade 2 social studies curriculum is really heating up as the students are learning all about maps. They began this unit by reading Me on a Map by Joan Sweeney. This book helped the students understand where they are in the world. Everyone also explored cardinal directions (north, south, east, and west) and used a compass rose to locate different buildings on a map. These skills are exciting because the class will soon apply them to the study of New York City, helping students explore the city’s landmarks and neighborhoods with confidence!
