Pictures Inside: Second Graders Throw MiddotMarks Celebrations Showcasing Design Thinking and Strong Values

Ramaz News

Second graders just hosted their MiddotMarks celebrations and dazzled their visiting parents with all their hard work. The students spent months learning about landmarks, including taking a tour of the Ramaz neighborhood and visiting the Empire State Building. They split up into groups based on a middah, or a value, that they cared about. The middot included perseverance, family, honesty, and friendship. Each group used design thinking and teamwork to create a building that represented their middah. They crafted 3D prototypes using materials including cardboard, construction paper, and markers. They also created digital models using Tinkercad, made during their time in the Innovation Lab. The students presented each of their prototypes to the parents as if they were on a landmark committee. Using the persuasive writing skills they honed in class, they tried to “convince” the parents that their buildings were worthy of becoming landmarks. After the presentations, parents placed their ballots in a ballot box, casting their votes to approve the landmarks.
