Fourth Graders Engineer Functional Wind Turbines
Ramaz News

Our fourth-grade scientists are officially plugging into their new unit on electricity, light, and heat. The students are stepping into the role of engineers by building functional wind turbines out of cardboard. To prep for the exercise, they learned all about how wind turbines work: Kinetic energy rotates blades and transfers into electricity, which passes through a transformer. Their teacher also presented them with fun facts, including that the first wind turbine was created in 1887 by a Scottish engineer named James Blyth, and that the largest turbine is in Hawaii, with blades the length of a football field. Their teacher was so impressed with the turbines the students created. Keep an eye out for these renewable energy marvels catching the breeze soon!
