Bestselling Author Adam Gidwitz Teaches Students about Writing, Imagination, and Protecting Magical Creatures
Ramaz News

Welcome to the Unicorn Rescue Society! Award-winning author Adam Gidwitz visited Lower Schoolers and shared the magic behind his beloved fantasy books. The students asked him thoughtful questions, including “What got you into writing?” He explained that childhood taught him writing isn't about putting words on a page, but about imagination. When he spun epic tales with his G.I. Joe action figures, and envisioned himself as a pro basketballer while shooting hoops in his driveway, he was developing his love of storytelling. He took students through the entrance exam for the Unicorn Rescue Society (from his book series, which they read in class). The questions included book trivia, fantasy lore, and would-you-rather ethical dilemmas. When they finished the exam, everyone pledged their special oaths to be “brave and kind and curious and brave” and celebrated becoming official members!
