Pre-K Students Meet Community Helpers and Learn about Careers

Pre-K students have received “community helper” visits from parents, teaching the students about their careers. One student’s father talked with the children about caring for the elderly in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, including by organizing fun activities to help the residents feel better. Another student’s father visited to teach them about being an engineer working in artificial intelligence. He taught the students how computers can learn to draw and recognize drawings, and the children played the computer game “Quick, Draw!” in which they drew pictures and the computer guessed what they drew. A student’s mother discussed her career as a dental hygienist:  she explained that she cleans patients’ teeth before the dentist comes in and shows them how to brush and floss. She demonstrated how to brush and floss their puppet Bentzi's teeth, and everyone got a chance to practice flossing Bentzi's teeth!
