Pre-K Students Learn about the Torah Keter and Make their Own Crowns with "Mummies and Masterpieces"

Pre-K students received a dazzling visit from "Mummies and Masterpieces," all about the Torah and Torah crowns! They discussed that, just as the holiday of Shavuot just highlighted, the Torah is extremely important to the Jewish People, and that is why Jews take good care of it and dress it up beautifully. The classes examined pictures of a famous Torah crown (keter) and Torah finials (rimonim) housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, by silversmith Andrea Zambelli. Both these pieces adorned an 18th-century Torah from the Jewish community in Venice. 

Finally, the students were ready to try their hands at making their own crowns! Blending their creativity and impressive fine motor skills, they decorated their paper crowns with an array of gems in all colors and sizes. Talk about beautiful adornments for a special occasion! Finally, they toured each other's creations like exhibits at an art museum, giving kind and supportive feedback about everyone's hard work.
