ECC Students Learn About Metamorphosis and Meet Their Classroom Caterpillars
Ramaz News
The ECC has been celebrating the spring with a unit on caterpillars and butterflies. Classes have received their very own caterpillars, which the students will nurture and observe until the caterpillars transform into butterflies and can be released into the wild. The students have been asking insightful questions about the insects’ biology and reading books, including From Caterpillar to Butterfly by Deborah Heiligman, learning about how the caterpillar spins a chrysalis and stays inside of it for many days until it emerges as a beautiful butterfly. The students learned that this process is named “metamorphosis.” The students are excited to keep getting to know the classroom caterpillars and to help them grow into happy, healthy adults. They also picked names for the caterpillars, some of which are Captain Barnacles, Edwin Diaz, Pickles, Sprinkles, and Rosabelle!
