ECC Students Have a Multisensory Lesson on Karpas, Matzah, and Maror
Ramaz News

ECC classes learned about Pesach through nature and plants! Students and Farmer Spence '09 discussed the foods that make an appearance at the Seder table. Some of the highlights were discussing karpas and the various options that can be used for this step; Matzah and how it’s made; and even why lettuce is used as maror! Did you know that lettuce can become bitter through a process known as bolting? The students learned about bolting, which is when lettuce is left in the ground past its prime and it starts to grow seeds. During this stage, the lettuce gets bitter. How amazing that the Rabbis knew all about farming! Classes even had the chance to taste parsley seeds, and were amazed to realize that some of them tasted like carrots. Ask the children if they tried a seed!
Be’ezrat Hashem everyone will return to the garden in the warmer weather soon.
