News From Ramaz
Throughout the year, the children in the ECC collect tzedakah. We work on making it meaningful and concrete for the children, for example, the children have used their tzedakah money to buy food and toys for those who are less fortunate. Before Pesach, it is a great treat to do the mitzvah of Maot Chitim with Rabbi Lookstein. All of the ECC classes brought their tzedakah to Rabbi Lookstein who will distribute it to help others enjoy Pesach. The students and the Rabbi sang the songs they learned in school; it was a beautiful and memorable moment for all involved. One class even taught Rabbi Lookstein an English addition to the Seder song Kadesh, orchatz.. He said he was going to add it to his Seder!
In addition to learning the importance of tzedakah, we also use it as a teachable moment. The children sort and count the tzedakah before they give it away. It is also exciting to see how our coins can add up!
