Sixth graders participated in the first of a three-part workshop dedicated to Opera music presented by the Manhattan School of Music (MSM).The workshop supports their music class where they have learned opera terms and analyzed a few famous arias.
Soprano singer Desiree Dawson, who is a MSM graduate student, shared her life story with the students on how she ended up choosing opera singing as a career. She sang a few arias (solo pieces used in operas) and taught the students a few vocal warm-up exercises, as well as the difference between vibrato singing and "straight" Broadway-type singing.
