The Business Investment Club had the pleasure of hearing from Skyler Levine'15. Skyler graduated from Ramaz in 2015 and then studied at the Wharton Business School. She is now a second-year analyst at Goldman Sachs' merchant banking division. She gave insight into the process she went through to become a real estate analyst at one of the largest banks in the world...

At the last Asian Culture Club meeting, students discussed the overall history and diplomatic relations of ancient and contemporary China. Students also talked about how Chinese genocides are often whitewashed in history, and how it is important to remember those who are usually forgotten. The origins of many famous Chinese myths were also discussed. The club aimed to educate members about aspects of Chinese history and culture that are not usually taught to westerners.

Architecture club is about revealing the art and the science within architecture. In this week's meeting, students began by mapping out their bedrooms, which is an important component to a future project. Students paid attention to the length and angles of each line while also staying true to the reality of their rooms. Students learned how architecture uses a vantage point and horizon line to map out rooms, houses, and buildings. Most important, they learned the basics of how to map out an entire world on just a piece of paper.

The Ramaz Upper School Economics Club had the privilege of hosting special guest speaker Dr. Jere Behrman, a professor of Economics and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Behrman spoke to the club about the economics of undernutrition in middle and low income countries. The club learned that through a cost-benefit analysis, investing in the undernourished youth population will lead to greater economic benefits for these countries. The presentation was then followed by a Q&A where students asked questions pertaining to this specific topic. Dr. Behrman demonstrated how economic growth can occur through positive social change.

Yoga club is open to all and with no experience, equipment, or special attire required. A 200-hour certified yoga instructor instructs the meetings, and leads power vinyasa flow yoga. This week, students began by going over a few basics of the sequence, which include downward dog, warriors 1 and 2, shoulder stand, and the "flow". Eventually, students will practice the full sequence. Participants can follow along with the demonstrator. In between the instruction, everyone has the opportunity to show off their own yoga skills!

In this weeks edition of the Ramaz Pre-Med club, our first presenter was Emily R.'22. She presented her summer research on how the brain functions, particularly while performing in front of an audience. Emily began with talking about social facilitation, the concept of how being with a crowd can influence performance. She mentioned parts of the brain that help this experience, including the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which processes social perception, the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, which processes emotion and mood, and the ventral striatum, which processes the feelings surrounding reward. We learned that when you're in front of an audience these parts of the brain will process how well you perform...

Teen Scene is a program where Ramaz students spend time with kids their own age who have developmental disabilities. Teen Scene is unique in the way that Ramaz students who participate do not act as advisors or leaders for the other teenagers...

The Persian Culture Club hosted guest speaker, Ms. Tali Farhadian Weinstein, who emigrated from Iran during the Iranian Revolution in 1979 and is currently running for Manhattan District Attorney in the upcoming elections. Weinstein is a prosecutor, a professor, and a proven criminal justice reformer. She also served as a clerk at the U.S. Supreme Court for Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and worked at the U.S. Department of Justice, first as Counsel to Attorney General Eric Holder, and then as a federal prosecutor....

Business Investment Club students heard from Mr. David Dwek, Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, who spoke about how investment banking works and the requirements needed to become an investment banker. Mr. Dwek explained that investment bankers help companies find each other and that investment bankers help run the financial activities of their clients. Students learned that having great internships are crucial to break into the field...

Upper School Pre-Med club members heard from their schoolmates Eric K. '22 and Liora K. '21 during their latest meetings. Eric presented on stem cells, specifically how experiments in labs have shown that they could be used to combat osteoarthritis, the degradation of cartilage in joints. This past summer, Eric interned at the Feinstein Institute and worked under Dr. Brandi, where he conducted research. Liora presented with Mr. Kavian on research about cell cycles and cancer...
