The Ramaz Upper School marked Election Day with guest speaker and Ramaz alumnus Adam Szubin '90, who addressed students about his work with the US Treasury Department in their counter-terrorism operations and Iranian nuclear arms control. Mr. Deutsch, Dr. Jucovy, Gail H. and Elizabeth N.C. joined Mr. Szubin in a fascinating follow-up discussion about US-China relations, the value of economic sanctions, and the art of international negotiations. Mr. Szubin served as the Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence and the Acting Secretary of the Treasury of the United States.

In honor of Election Day, Mr. Evan Farber '95 (a Ramaz alumnus and current parent) spoke to Mrs. Gantz Wexler's fifth grade public speaking class. He discussed his career as a civil litigation attorney, connecting his work to Election Day, civics, and Jewish values. He also told students how blessed they are to take a public speaking class in middle school since persuasive speaking is a critical skill you will need your whole life, whether you are appearing in court, running for office, or supporting a political candidate. Students followed up with many insightful questions.

The Upper School students listened in awe as the Major Moshe Scheinfeld, Ramaz '83, spoke about "Serving and Sacrifice," a simply worded phrase with an overwhelming message in commemoration of Memorial Day. Sacrifice, he explained, is the harsh reality that comes with Serving our nation, preserving our freedoms, and guarding our way of life...

Four students visited one of the corporate offices of WeWork, a successful startup that is revolutionizing the current office real estate market. Arash Gohari '91, a co-head of WeWork Real Estate in the US, Israel and Canada, met with us. He described in detail WeWork's business plan, the entrepreneurial aspect of the business and the model... Who must hear the Megillah? EVERYONE! ​Diversity at its Best! 21 years ago, a student initiated what is now a longstanding tradition at Ramaz, reading Megillat Esther on Purim night at Lenox Hill/LIJ Hospital for patients, doctors and nurses who are on-call, and visiting families. We never know exactly how many patients will ask for a "private" reading, and freshman Jordan M., sophomore Jeremy B., juniors Avery S. and Zachary B. and alumni Aaron Kohl'13 and Simon Shohet '12 were well prepared. We read for Satmar Chasidim, a Russian immigrant, to two people who were admitted to the Emergency Room, and immediately requested a reading, and to a patient in the ICU for whom Simon had to don a mask and gown which didn't deter him, all in a night's mitzvah work! ...

Twelve Ramaz alumni returned to the Upper School for the Annual Ramaz Alumni-Senior Career Showcase. Each alumnus/a was there to represent a different professional industry and to guide and inspire seniors as they begin to figure out their career interests and goals. Students attended two sessions with the alumni/industry of their choice and then the entire grade convened in the auditorium for a panel discussion with all of the alumni representatives...

On Tuesday, during advisory, the 7th grade girls participated in a presentation from Citibank. Female employees at Citibank volunteer to go to schools and encourage girls to consider careers in IT.

Natan Edelsburg '06, former member of Ramaz Chesed Clubs (in all three divisions!), returned to address the MS Chesed Club. Together with classmate Adam Flomenbaum '06, he is supporting their causes with a raffle prize donation. Thank you to both our alumni for your generous support!
