Freshmen Biologists Collect Pond Water from Central Park and Analyze It Under Microscope

The ninth grade walked to Turtle Pond in Central Park to collect pond water samples. They brought the samples back to school to examine under microscopes and look for the microorganisms that are typically found in ponds. Students have been studying the various categories of living organisms and this provided them with a hands-on opportunity to view organisms from the kingdom protista. Under their microscopes, they saw the amoeba, paramecium, nematode, and algae. They had so much fun learning more about the environment of New York City!
