ABOUT OUR EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER

At Ramaz, our youngest learners develop a sense of Jewish pride and joy as we nurture each child's curiosity and passion for exploring the world around them, building an academic and spiritually-rich foundation that helps them build success in school and in life.

With our Jewish tradition and values at the heart of the Ramaz mission, our students begin a journey to becoming compassionate, independent thinkers who will go on to help make our world a better place.

Our Approach to Teaching and Learning

These early years reflect a time of remarkable growth, when children experience rapid development, learn new skills, and progress towards physical, linguistic, and social-emotional milestones. We encourage learning by building on each child’s strengths. At the same time, we also use research-based sequences of development to understand the range of changes that occur during the early years of a child’s life. Our teachers' knowledge of typical development provides a framework from which they prepare and plan appropriate learning experiences. We guide each child’s social, physical, emotional, and cognitive development by creating a positive classroom environment that fosters cooperation, a feeling of kehillah, and a love of Israel.

HANDS-ON, IMMERSIVE, INTEGRATED

At Ramaz, we want children to feel safe - and empowered and inspired - to explore new environments, new materials and new relationships in a way they can see, feel, taste, hear, and understand. This helps children learn how to relate to one another and gain self-confidence as they learn skills to independently explore and experience the world, developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills for a successful, meaningful Jewish life.

Developing Critical Thinkers and Problem Solvers

Early Childhood students begin to explore the world around them through a Jewish lens and our American democratic values. They learn about real-world problems from their own neighborhood, using early design thinking to help solve them. They also are introduced to the power of Chesed and Menschlichkeit as they grow to be future Jewish and community leaders who will help repair our world.

Fostering Empathy and Resilience

Robust, child-centered social-emotional learning nurtures empathy, resilience, mindfulness, and readiness to learn. Using research-based techniques of Responsive Classroom, Second Step, and Character Strong, our students learn to compromise, problem-solve, ask for help, use appropriate language to express wants and needs, manage feelings, and form positive relationships.

Cultivating Ahavat Yisrael

We inspire students to develop a love of and commitment to the State and people of Israel through immersive experiences and authentic learning of Hebrew language, culture, and history.

Building Community and Spirituality

At Ramaz, students grow religiously, spiritually, and intellectually through Tefillah, Chagim, and traditions bound together by Modern Orthodox observance. Living by the Jewish calendar, we raise our students to love Torah and Am Yisrael, instilling in them the joy of learning and the pride in being Jewish.
