What is Natan@Ramaz?

Natan@Ramaz – a flagship initiative of Parents Council – extends a helping hand to the entire Ramaz community, including students, parents, teachers, faculty, administration, and staff. The mission of Natan@Ramaz is to offer recognition, support, and resources to individual Ramaz community members as they experience personal life cycle events, such as births, deaths, or medical emergencies/crises.

What does Natan@Ramaz do?

Natan@Ramaz representatives regularly receive information about Ramaz communal life cycle events, such as births, deaths, or medical emergencies/crises. Once notified, Natan@Ramaz volunteers initiate a response of acknowledgment or support. In addition to a written or electronic acknowledgement, Natan@Ramaz might provide a gift of a Natan@Ramaz baby onesie, home-made or restaurant-provided Shiva meals, or home-made challah.

Who is the support from?

Gifts and support given on behalf of Natan@Ramaz are meant to be from and for everyone in the Ramaz community. Natan@Ramaz is funded by Ramaz community donations.

As a teacher I have sent you emails to inform you of births in my class families. It is quite another thing to be the recipient of Natan's chesed. I found the experience to be overwhelming. I returned home from the hospital after my recent surgery late Thursday. Friday morning I received a phone call and then a visit from a parent. She brought bags of Shabbat goodies and a big smile on her face. It feels wonderful to be part of a warm and caring community. Thank you so much! Tizku l'mitzvot.

CHALLAH SEGULAH

Separating challah is a tremendous mitzvah which can be done by anyone. More specifically, the moment immediately following the separation is an auspicious time to pray for one's own needs as well as the needs of others.

On a monthly basis, women will gather to prepare challah and pray for the refuah of members of our community and their families, timed to correlate with Rosh Chodesh, a women’s holiday.

LOAVES OF LOVE

Loaves of Love

Loaves of Love was conceptualized by Natan@Ramaz LS/ECC co-chair Julie Feldman and is the equivalent of a home-made, edible "hug." The program's goal is to deliver weekly a home-made challah to a Ramaz family member (student, parent, faculty, or staff) going through a life cycle event. Ultimately, we'd like to be able to give to families "just because." To date, we have delivered hundreds of Loaves of Love. Our current goal is to deliver 3-6 challot every week.

How you can become involved...

Join our challah baking team! Julie, our primary "LoL" baker, bakes every week and provides 2-3 challot towards "Loaves of Love." We're looking for 2 or 3 more weekly challah bakers. We're committed to keeping this process simple and easy:

Thursday check-in to find out if you'll be baking and if you'll have extra challot to contribute.
You'll receive the name and address of a recipient. You can either deliver to their home, to their child in school, or to another Natan volunteer to distribute. We are committed to helping out with distribution; we don't want to burden our bakers!
We will provide beautiful packaging and labels.

We're looking forward to partnering with many of you on this new, exciting initiative.
