SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Cocurricular activities and events are an integral part of the educational environment at Ramaz. We have created a program that includes a wide range of informal educational programming to meet the varied interests of our student body and to promote the educational goals and philosophy of the school.

Many of these activities take place outside the school building and entail additional costs. In all cases, the school supports these programs by underwriting part of the cost of these events. For the larger scale activities, beyond the scope of the student activities fee, parents are asked to help defray the cost of these vital programs. We are providing you with a listing of approximate costs to help you budget for the coming year. These costs are based on last year's figures, and are, of course, subject to change; these costs include transportation, meals and accommodations, except where indicated.

I.	Freshman Shabbaton - ($125-150) - A Shabbat program designed to introduce incoming students to their new classmates and to faculty in an informal comfortable setting.
II.	Freshman Seminar - ($280-$310) - A three-day unique educational experience, which includes thought provoking discussions and programs on religious and social topics. This program is developed and facilitated in conjunction with the Yeshivah of Flatbush.
III.	Junior Retreat - ($225-$250) - Junior Retreat is a four day program planned by Juniors and their advisers. It provides an opportunity for the juniors to plan and implement their own educational and social programs.
IV.	Senior Trip - ($260-$300) - A trip is run for the graduating class to a location outside of New York City.
V.	Chagigot - ($5) - The Ramaz G.O., in conjunction with the Parents Council, sponsors a Chanukkah and Purim chagigah to celebrate the chagim in the appropriate manner. Students are bussed to and from the various communities; dinner and simcha dancing are a large part of each evening.
VI.	Cultural and Theater Nights and Class Evenings - ($15-$45 - does not include dinner) - Throughout the year, varied cultural and social evenings are sponsored by the Ramaz G.O. and specific academic departments.
VII.	Senior Experience to Poland and Israel - ($2,600 - $3,000) - This two week adventure is a voluntary journey to understand the richness of life before World War II, the Holocaust and the rebirth of the State of Israel. It is a summative experience of a Ramaz education.
