CLUBS

Abolition Club

The Abolition Club grew out of a drive conducted in grades five and six to help free slaves in Sudan. During lunchtime meetings, we discuss the issue of worldwide slavery, create activities and projects to help the situation, write letters, and come up with ways to help others understand the seriousness of the problem.

Book Clubs For Grades Five and Six

Book Club members read and discuss stories, essays and novels. We begin our reading and discussions with short stories by such authors as Ray Bradbury, Pearl S. Buck, Edgar Allen Poe, Jack London and many others. If you enjoy reading and would like to join in a lively discussion, then you will certainly enjoy Book Club.

Book Club For Grades Seven and Eight

Members meet on alternating weeks and read and discuss a variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction. Several authors visit to talk about their books and discuss how they became writers. If you enjoy reading and talking about literature in an informal way, you will enjoy this club experience.

Chesed

The Chesed Club is for fifth and sixth grade students who enjoy getting involved and helping those less fortunate than themselves. Members organize many Mitzvah drives throughout the year. We conduct shoe, clothing, coat, toiletries and canned food drives, and many more projects to help those in need. If you enjoy helping others, please join us.

Chess

The Chess Club invites beginners, intermediates, and advanced players and provides appropriate instruction and supervised play. Members are encouraged to participate in a variety of tournaments throughout the year. (There is a fee for this club.)

Computer Club

Computer Club offers the opportunity to use computers in a variety of ways - from sharpening computer skills to exploring "fun" web sites, from corresponding with global pen pals to learning graphic design.

Environmental Issues

Environmental Issues explores a wide range of issues ranging from recycling within the school building to topics such as the use of DDT in developing countries, an opportunity to "think globally and act locally."

Homework Club

Homework Club offers a quiet, comfortable and spacious environment for assistance in working on and completing assignments and projects. Students can get help in organizing their work, budgeting their time and planning projects.

Israel-in-the-News

Israel-in-the-News reads and discusses current newspaper articles pertaining to Israel. Discussions are both lively and informative.

Junior Kollel

Junior Kollel is a lunch and learn program that combines Torah learning with the flavor of Eretz Yisrael. Come and meet the "fellows" who share their knowledge and experience as senior students in Israeli Yeshivot and veterans of the Israel Defense Force.

Math Clinic

Math Clinic focuses on polishing participants' basic math skills. The students participate in math games and timed drills to help improve their mathematical abilities.

Mishmar

Mishmar is an exciting learning experience with a focus on relevant halakhic, ethical and philosophical themes all taught in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Mock Trial

Mock Trial simulates trial proceedings of cases that have either been tried or created for the purpose of learning how the court system works. Students take the roles of lawyers, witnesses and judges.

Museum Club

Museum Club is open to seventh and eighth graders who would like to spend one Sunday each month exploring some of New York City's many museums. Trips will include: the Met, MOMA, the Guggenheim, the Museum of Television and Radio, the Cooper-Hewitt, the Museum of the City of New York, and the Museum of Natural History. (Admission fees are not included)

Poetry Club

Poetry Club is for students who are interested in reading, discussing and writing poetry. Members read and discuss poems by some very familiar poets such as: Robert Frost, Langston Hughes, Walt Whitman, Carl Sandburg, Emily Dickinson and William Shakespeare, as well as many poets who will be introduced for the first time. The students also write their own poetry that is published in a "POETRY CLUB" magazine.

Shakespeare Club

Shakespeare Club is for students who like to learn about the life and works of William Shakespeare, one of the greatest poets and playwrights of all time.

Simcha Dancing

Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon learning Simcha dancing and getting good exercise too. This will help you to fully celebrate at every simcha.

Spanish Club

There are two Spanish clubs, one for seventh graders and one for eighth graders. The objective is to review for quizzes and tests and to supplement classwork by providing activities in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. We also play games. This is a great opportunity for students to increase their exposure to Spanish.
