CLUBS
Art Club
Students participate in a small group creative art projects in which individual skills can be nurtured and developed.
Band Club
Students (grades 3-4) interested in playing an instrument receive lessons in small groups. Usually, the band will perform its debut concert in the spring. Instruments are available through a rental or purchase program. The instruments involved in the school band include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion.
Chess Club
Students will learn the rules of the game, how to move the pieces, chess notation, and other basic fundamentals. Students who already know chess basics will learn opening ideas and formations, as well as different traps and checkmate patterns. Members are encouraged to participate in a variety of tournaments throughout the year. Mark Kurtzman, National Chess Master and Director of Tri-State Chess and C.I.T.Y. (Chess in the Yeshivot) leads this club at Ramaz.
Chess and Games Club
Play chess and other games in the mornings with skilled teachers and peers. There is no registration required for morning clubs.
Chorus
The students will learn the different parts of a chorus and then will be given the opportunity to perform
Computer Club
In a relaxed and supportive environment, students will use technology to express their creativity and have fun. The program will include specific projects for all students to participate in.
Crocheting Club
Students learn basic stitches, the technique of adding additional colored yarns, and how to make decorations such as flowered accents and trimmings.
Dance
The students will learn Israeli dances, as well as other fun dances.
Homework Club
Members of the Lower School faculty assist students with assignments, work and organization skills in both general and Judaic studies. The participating teachers maintain ongoing contact with classroom teachers.
Jewelry Making
Students create special one-of-a-kind jewelry using beads, stones, shells, and other ornamental materials. Basic techniques of beads tringing, bead weaving, and wire wrapping are taught.
Knitting Club
Students learn the basic techniques for casting on, knitting, purling, and binding off. Different patterns and methods of changing colors are taught. Class includes how to make handmade decorations, including pom-poms and fringes.
Math Club
Students who find math exciting explore areas to which they have not been exposed in the classroom. Topics include: tangrams, polyhedra, number sequences and tessellations. They will also learn strategies for solving challenging math problems. This is not math tutoring. This club requires basic math skills and an interest in math.
Microworld Club
Microworlds or LOGO is a computer language that makes computer programming accessible to children. They will learn geometry and apply mathematics skills as they calculate distances and angle measurements. Those who are familiar with the language will have the opportunity to explore animation and create animated scenes and games.
Mind Lab Club
Students develop their critical thinking skills, strategizing power, and decision-making ability to play board games and online games. They become part of the Lower School team taking part in the "Mind Olympics."
Mosaic Art Club
Students learn to create a variety of patterns and images made up of small, richly colored tiles. Objects transformed into decorative and functional works of mosaic art may include wooden boxes, flowerpots, trays, mirrors, and picture frames.
Publishing Club
In this publishing club, students will be expected to write and interview for a school newsletter, as well as edit it.
Theatre Club
Student actors will be guided in the development of their own script, act out what they write, and delve into an understanding of the Jewish holidays in a unique way. Original songs are written and students will take the lead in creating their costumes and props.
