The Health Office is located on the eighth floor of the Lower School. It remains open the entire school day. Students who feel ill, are injured or require any medical assistance should go to the school nurse.

MEDICAL AND EMERGENCY FORMS
All incoming as well as returning students must submit the Ramaz School Health Record, Ramaz School Dental Record and Emergency Authorization Form every year. These forms must be received by the Health Office prior to the start of the school year. Any student without a current Health, Dental or Emergency Authorization Form on file in the Health Office will not be permitted to attend school until such forms are received.

MEDICATIONS
If a student must take prescription medication during school, the Health Office must have the original bottle with the student's name and doctor's instructions on it. Only the nurse may dispense prescription medication in school.

Over-the-counter medicines will be given only if the parent has identified the medicine on the student's School Health Record.

Students who have medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes or allergies that require using an inhaler, insulin or anti-histamine are advised to keep an extra supply of medication in the Health Office.

ALLERGIES
Parents of students with severe allergies must complete the separate form, "Protocol for Students with Life-Threatening Allergies" and return it to the Health Office prior to the start of school. Parents must provide the nurse with their child's appropriate medication(s) and instructions for treatment. The Health Office must be notified when a child is no longer suffering from an allergy.

LICE CHECKS

Lice checks are mandatory before returning to school after summer, winter and Passover vacations. Lice checks are performed at Ramaz by a professional service and the school nurse.

VISION, HEARING AND SPEECH SCREENINGS

During the school year, students in Kindergarten are screened for vision and hearing issues by representatives of the New York Board of Education. Students in Kindergarten are screened for speech issues by a private speech pathologist. The nurse will contact parents regarding the results of these screenings.

CURRICULUM
The nurse visits each class during the school year to teach about proper nutrition and personal hygiene.

HEALTH ALERTS
The nurse will notify parents if there is a student in a child's class with a communicable medical condition. Information describing the condition will be made available.
