"Between parent and teacher let us stress affiliation,
In order that there may be greater cooperation"
First Annual Parents Council Report
Lillian Jacobs, Assistant to the Principal 1937-1970
MISSION
Parents Council represents parents and was formed to facilitate
communication among parents, teachers and the administration.
To this end, Parents Council oversees the liaison committees and
the class parents program in each of the schools. In addition,
a variety of programs throughout the year are planned in order
to raise revenue for school projects, equipment and events. Numerous
educational, holiday and social programs for students, faculty
and parents are also sponsored by the Council. Through these activities,
Parents Council stimulates school spirit, fosters a sense of community
and enhances the quality of school life for students and faculty.
The success of the Parents Council requires tremendous effort on the part of many volunteers in order to maintain the flow of ideas between parents and the school and in order to raise funds to enhance the quality of student life. All parents are encouraged to volunteer for ongoing projects and to become involved in the various committees. Parents who participate invariably find that their involvement, regardless of extent, is rewarding and of tremendous benefit to both the students and themselves. Parents are also encouraged to attend the various Parents Council programs. Annual dues help underwrite activities throughout the year.
ORGANIZATION
The Ramaz administration, in consultation with the outgoing Parents Council president(s), appoints the president (or co-presidents) of Parents Council. The president(s), in turn, select a vice-president for each of the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools, as well as the treasurer and secretary. Each officer is a school parent and serves for a three year term. The remainder of the Parents Council Executive Committee is comprised of the liaison chairs and representatives of the Early Childhood Center, Lower, Middle and Upper Schools and each of the program committee chairs. The Executive Committee currently numbers about fifty parents.
The Executive Board, which includes the officers and chairs of
each committee, meets at least twice a year to evaluate current
programming and to discuss ways that Parents Council can best
meet the needs of the Ramaz community.
