As a precursor to their European Team Handball unit, children in grades one through four worked on their throwing skills. Each class played, "Not in my Backyard," in which students practiced throwing balls accurately over, under, through, and around designated obstacles. Using the dividing curtain and a wall of mats, physical education teachers created the spaces in which the students could throw. They also suspended targets from the curtain so the children could challenge themselves and gain extra points for their team. The premise of the game is to clean up your team's backyard by throwing away the balls that were on it and ending up with the lowest total number in your team's space.
